June Trivia courtesy Wilkopedia
June is the sixth month of the year in the Gregorian calendar. with a length of 30 days.
The Roman poet Ovid provides two etymologies for June's name in his poem concerning
the months entitled the Fasti. The first is that the month is named after the Roman goddess
Juno, wife of Jupiter and equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera. Wilst the second is that the
name comes from the Latin word iuniores, meaning "younger ones," as opposed to maiores
("elders") for which the preceding month May is named .At the start of June, the sun rises in
the constellation of Taurus:at the end of June, the sun rises in the constellation of Gemini.
However, due to the precession of the equinoxes, June begins with the sun in the astrological
sign of Gemini and ends with the sun in the astrological sign of Cancer. June is the month with
the longest daylight hours of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest daylight
hours of the year in the Southern Hemisphere.June in the Northern Hemosphere is the
seasonal equivalent to December in the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa.
The month of June—in the Northern Hemisphere—is in spring until the 21st, when the first day
of summer begins. The traditional June birthstone is the pearl. The June birth flower is the
rose or the honeysuckle as roses and honeysuckles bloom throughout June. June is also
sometimes called the "Rose month." June is known for the large number of marriages that
occur over the course of the month. According to one etymology, June is named after Juno
(Hera).Juno was the goddess of marriage and a married couple's household, so some consider
it good luck to be married in this month\In both common and leap years, no other month begins
on the same day of the week as June. This month and May are
the only two months that have this.
There are 12 different stones listed as birthstones for the calendar month of June, or as Sun/Star,
Planetary, or Talismanic stones for the Zodiac sign of Gemini or Cancer. Because these two Zodiac
signs span part of June, both are listed .
Birthstones for the calendar month of June are pearl, moonstone, alexandrite, agate, chalcedony, and emerald.
The Zodiac signs of Gemini and Cancer include six additional stones: chrysoprase,
tiger's eye, white sapphire, ruby, sapphire, and citrine.
June's birth flower is the Rose
and the Honeysuckle
Zodiac moment
Gemini
May 21 - June 21
Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac, and those born under this sign will
be quick to tell you all about it. That's because they love to talk! It's not
just idle chatter with these folks, either. The driving force behind a Gemini's
conversation is their mind. The Gemini-born are intellectually inclined, forever
probing people and places in search of information. The more information a
Gemini collects, the better. Sharing that information later on with those they love
is also a lot of fun, for Geminis are supremely interested in developing their
relationships. Dalliances with these folks are always enjoyable, since Geminis
are bright, quick-witted and the proverbial life of the party. Even though their
intellectual minds can rationalize forever and a day, Geminis also have a surplus
of imagination waiting to be tapped. Can a Gemini be boring? Never!
Cancer
June 22 - July 22
Cancer, the fourth sign of the zodiac, is all about home. Those born
under this sign are 'roots' kinds of people, and take great pleasure in the
comforts of home and family. Cancers are maternal, domestic and love to
nurture others. More than likely, their family will be large, too -- the more,
the merrier! Cancers will certainly be merry if their home life is serene and
harmonious. Traditions are upheld with great zest in a Cancer's household,
since these folks prize family history and love communal activities. They
also tend to be patriotic, waving the flag whenever possible. A Cancer's good
memory is the basis for stories told around the dinner table, and don't be surprised
if these folks get emotional about things. Those born under this sign wear their
heart on their sleeve, which is just fine by them.
